ACCOMPLISHMENTS
During his time in legislative leadership, Dan has been at the forefront of stopping Laura Kelly’s radical agenda and pushing through policies that put Kansas first despite Governor Kelly’s vetoes. Here are just a few of those accomplishments:
Eliminated the food sales tax
Eliminated the state income tax on social security
Significantly lowered the state income tax
Reduced the state portion of the property tax, particularly for homeowners
Successfully passed numerous pro 2nd amendment measures and as a member of House leadership he consistently received an A rating from the National Rifle Association
Led the effort to successfully override Governor Kelly’s veto of numerous pro-life bills and was consistently endorsed by Kansans for Life
Protected Kansas kids by banning biological males from competing in girls’ sports and banning radical gender reassignment surgeries on Kansas children
Ensured election integrity by overriding Governor Kelly numerous times on measures to protect our elections.
For over a decade Dan has led the effort to prevent the expansion of Obamacare in our state saving Kansas taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars
Led the effort to end Governor Kelly’s COVID lockdowns, including the legislature successfully calling themselves back into session for the first time in the history of our state
Banned sanctuary cities in Kansas and put in place numerous provisions to help the Trump administration push back on illegal immigration
Passed the Ike Transportation plan to ensure Kansas continues to have one of the best highway systems in the nation
Implemented a new budgeting process for the state that saved over $210 million in the first year
Put in place new procedures to eliminate unnecessary rules and regulations making it easier to own and operate a small business in Kansas

MEET DAN HAWKINS
As Speaker of the House, Dan Hawkins has led the charge to stop Laura Kelly’s radically liberal agenda. His leadership helped override Governor Kelly’s vetoes and ultimately pass comprehensive tax reform, protect girls’ sports, and ensure the integrity of our elections.
Dan spent a good share of his early childhood on his grandfather’s dairy farm in southern Harper County. He later served in the Kansas Army National Guard where he learned many of the leadership lessons that would later help him in the legislature.
In 1985, Dan married his college sweetheart Diane, and they have two beautiful daughters and four grandkids! Dan loves spending time with his family, introducing his grandson Rocky to his love of rodeos, and occasionally going fishing when time allows.
In 1991, Dan and his father started their first business. From that time on, Dan knew that owning his own business is exactly what he wanted to do.
In 1995, Dan started his career in the insurance business. During that time, he specialized in employee benefits, helping small businesses and their employees get the most out of their insurance. For 30 years Dan has specialized in helping Kansans navigate the complex insurance industry.
Dan has represented the 100th District in the Wichita area in the Kansas House since 2013. Before joining the ranks of House leadership, Dan served as Chair of the House Health Committee. He was elected Majority Leader in 2019 and served two terms in that role until he was elected Speaker of the House in 2023.
